Learning Spanish In 6 Months

I had tried for many years to master this language. Would it be possible for me to learn Spanish in 6 months?

As I type this, I have wanted to be fluent in Spanish for about 23 years. I have been fluent in Spanish for the last 4.5 years. Mexicans and Spanish alike tell me I speak Spanish fluently.

Do I speak every single word? No.

Can I communicate effectively without needing english at all? Yes.

My Spanish language journey has been littered with random attempts to learn to speak Spanish.

I know that learn Spanish in 6 months would be possible.

I’d also read the story of Benny. He is fluent in multiple languages who made language learning seem realistic and plausible for me and his website is called Fluent In 3 Months. A lot of people have taken his course? So why was I trying to do this in 6 months? Well as part of my goal to try and accomplish significant growth and learning through 6-month projects

Learning a new language

My Journey

So my dream of learning Spanish actually goes back to my second and final year at University. There was a free course available on our campus, and the class for whom the course was intended had a poor turn out. So the tutor went around campus asking students from other courses and classes if they would like free Spanish lessons to make up the numbers.

You had me at free.

It seems a long time ago now, but I do recall finding it relatively easy to pick up, compared to French which I struggled with at high school (senior school).

Tools to learn

Trip to Barcelona

I went on a spontaneous solo trip to Barcelona, Spain in 2013 for 4 days. I had a phrasebook with me, but walking amongst the natives and listening sounds roll off their tongues, it was then that I decided I was going to be fluent in Spanish. Finally, I had the motivation

Living with Mexican Family For Six Months

One of the ways to learn Spanish is to move to a Spanish speaking country. Spain was right on my doorstep. Prior to my Barcelona holiday, I had been to Spain a few times (like many brits), but I had no desire to move there.

I had looked at a language exchange when I was in the UK and also when I was in Spain, but I guess going through official channels always seemed somewhat alien to me

On June 1st, I moved in with a Mexican family in Monterrey. It was an opportunity to learn Spanish from native speakers. One of the problems was that the family I lived with all wanted to speak English with me. They all had varying levels of English competency and comprehension.
